Scholarship Opportunities for All Students at UAH:

UAH Departmental Scholarships

UAH departmental scholarships are open to all students, entering and current.  Alumni, parents, and friends, along with corporations, foundations, and organizations, have established these scholarship funds recognizing academic merit, leadership qualities, demonstrated financial need, and athletic or artistic talent.  Historical information on each scholarship is listed in the UAH Undergraduate Catalog.  Award amounts range from textbook funding to full tuition, and may be supplemented with other scholarship awards.

These distinguished and limited awards are highly competitive.  Submission of one UAH Scholarship Application each year will apply a student for all available departmental scholarships.  Students must be fully admitted and submit a UAH Scholarship Application by the priority deadline to receive priority consideration for departmental scholarships.

It is recommended that applicants also submit the Scholarship Need Analysis form by the priority deadline, as some departmental scholarships consider financial need in the selection process.  Award notifications for the upcoming academic year begin in late winter/early spring, and continue through the summer.

Scholarship Opportunities Specific to Entering First-Time Freshmen:

Entering first-time freshmen are strongly encouraged to submit a scholarship application by the posted deadline to achieve priority consideration for departmental scholarships (above).  Additional opportunities include:

UAH Presidential and Academic Excellence Scholarships

UAH awards these prestigious scholarships on the basis of academic performance to incoming first-time freshmen. The high school GPA in academic/core subject areas, combined with ACT and/or SAT scores, is evaluated and used in the selection process (SAT scores evaluated do not include the writing section).  These awards are granted to qualifying students upon admission, and do not require a scholarship application.  The selection process for this scholarship program ends June 1st each year.

Initial award amounts for the Presidential and Academic Excellence scholarships range from $600 to full tuition+, depending on academic qualifications.  The amount of the award increases each year the student renews by the same percentage as any tuition increase, to maintain the relative value of the award.  These scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years, based on satisfactory academic progress and performance.

UAH Academic Excellence awards begin at a minimum 23 ACT score (1070 SAT) combined with a minimum 2.75 GPA in academic subjects.  Students with a minimum score of 27 on the ACT (1200 SAT) may be competitive for the UAH Presidential Scholarship depending on GPA.  Students with a minimum 31 ACT (1360 SAT) and 3.5 GPA in academic subjects will receive a UAH Presidential scholarship offer valued at full tuition+.

Valedictorian-Salutatorian Scholarship

Any admitted UAH incoming freshman selected as Valedictorian or Salutatorian of his/her high school class is eligible for a supplemental scholarship valued at $500 per year for four years*.  To qualify, the student must matriculate at UAH the fall term immediately following high school graduation and have the high school send official notification of Valedictorian or Salutatorian status to our scholarship office.

National Merit, Achievement, or Hispanic Finalists and Semi-Finalists

Students who have been declared a National Merit, Achievement, or Hispanic Finalist qualify for the UAH Platinum Award of Academic Distinction, valued at full tuition+ plus tuition-related course fees, basic on-campus housing and meal plan, and a $500-per-year textbook scholarship,* for four years.

Students who have been declared a National Merit, Achievement, or Hispanic Semi-Finalist qualify for the UAH Gold Award of Academic Distinction, valued at full tuition+ plus tuition-related course fees and a $500-per-year textbook scholarship,* for four years.

To receive a UAH Platinum or Gold scholarship offer, eligible students must register UAH as first-choice college with the National Merit Corporation and send a copy of official notification of National Merit status to our scholarship office.  These awards are offered in place of any UAH Presidential or Academic Excellence scholarship for which the student may qualify, as they provide a full-tuition equivalent.

UAH Foundation Presidential Scholarship

Twenty-six awards based upon academic merit are made each year to incoming first-time freshmen residing in Huntsville/Madison County, Alabama.  This award is valued at full tuition+ for four years plus tuition-related course fees. Candidates should submit a UAH Scholarship Application and be fully admitted by the scholarship priority deadline.  This award is offered in place of any UAH Presidential or Academic Excellence scholarship for which the student may qualify, as it provides a full-tuition equivalent.
