***Although it is sometimes necessary to borrow money to finance an education, caution is advised. Generally, a student should not rely primarily on loans and is advised not to borrow more than what is needed to meet expenses. *** Federal Direct Subsidized Loans: Low interest loans for undergraduate and graduate students, with maximum loans limits per year as follows:• $3,500 for first undergraduates • $4,500 for second year undergraduates • $5,500 for third and fourth year undergraduates • $8,500 for graduate and professional school students Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans: • $2,000 for first and second year dependent undergraduates• $2,000 for third and fourth year dependent undergraduates • $6,000 for first and second year independent undergraduates • $7,000 for third and fourth year independent undergraduates • $12,000 for graduate and professional students Cumulative Loan Limits (Subsidized/Unsubsidized): • Dependent undergraduates $31,000• Independent undergraduates $57,500 • Graduate and professional $138,500 Repayment begins six months after graduation or when the student drops below half-time attendance. The interest on the subsidized loans is paid by the federal government while the student is in school. The interest on the unsubsidized loans will start accruing immediately as the loan is disbursed. The amount a student may borrow is limited to financial eligbility. Also, Stafford loans will be subject to a 3% origination fee. Interest rates are variable up to 8.25% maximum. Total indebtedness cannot exceed $31,000 for a dependent undergraduate, $57,500 for a independant, or $138,500 as a graduate or professional student Federal Plus Loan:
