UAH First-Time Freshman Scholarships

Entering first-time freshmen are strongly encouraged to submit a scholarship application by the posted deadline to receive priority consideration for departmental scholarships (see previous page).  Additional opportunities specific to first-time freshmen are listed below.


UAH Presidential and Academic Excellence Scholarships

UAH awards these prestigious scholarships on the basis of academic performance to incoming first-time freshmen. The high school GPA,combined with ACT and/or SAT scores, is evaluated and used in the selection process (SAT scores evaluated do not include the writing section).  These awards are granted to qualifying students upon admission, and do not require a scholarship application.  Eligible students must be admitted by June 1st each year.

Valedictorian-Salutatorian Scholarship

Any admitted UAH incoming freshman selected as Valedictorian or Salutatorian of his/her high school class is eligible for a supplemental scholarship valued at $500 per year for four years if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress and full time student status.  To qualify, the student must enroll at UAH the fall term immediately following high school graduation and have the high school send official notification of Valedictorian or Salutatorian status to our scholarship office.


National Merit, Achievement, or Hispanic Finalists and Semi-Finalists

Students who have been declared a National Merit, Achievement, or Hispanic Finalist qualify for the UAH Platinum Award of Academic Distinction, valued at full tuition (up to 15 credit hours per semseter) plus course fees, basic on-campus housing and meal plan, and a $500-per-year textbook stipend for four years if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress and full time student status.

Students who have been declared a National Merit,Achievement, or Hispanic Semi-Finalist qualify for the UAH Gold Award of Academic Distinction, valued at full tuition (up to 15 credit hours per semester) plus course fees and a $500-per-year textbook stipend for four years if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress and full time student status.

To receive a UAH Platinum or Gold scholarship offer, eligible students must register UAH as first-choice college with the National Merit Corporation and send a copy of official notification of National Merit status to our scholarship office.  These awards are offered in place of any UAH Presidential or Academic Excellence scholarship for which the student may qualify, as they provide a full-tuition equivalent.


UAH Foundation Presidential Scholarship

Twenty-six awards based upon academic merit are made each year to incoming first-time freshmen residing in Huntsville/Madison County, Alabama.  This award is valued at full tuition (up to 15 credit hours per semester) for four years plus course fees. Candidates should submit a UAH Scholarship Application and be fully admitted by the scholarship priority deadline(December 1).  This award is offered in place of any UAH Presidential or Academic Excellence scholarship for which the student may qualify, as it provides a full-tuition equivalent.
